Ghent University Top-Up Grants for International Students in Belgium, 2018



The new Ghent University Top-up Grants is an offer for all new students from least developed Countries, low-income countries, lower middle-income countries and upper middle-income countries. Grants are available to pursue the master or master-after-master degree programme taught in English.
Ghent University is a top 100 university and one of the major universities in Belgium. Our 11 faculties offer a wide range of courses and conduct in-depth research in both exact and social sciences. Ghent University aims to encourage its students to adopt a critical approach within a creative, development-oriented educational and research environment.

Scholarship Description:

  • Application Deadline: March 1, 2018
  • Course Level: Grants are available to pursue master or master-after-master programme taught in English.
  • Study Subject: Scholarships are offered in diverse fields to help students in upgrading their education.
  • Scholarship Award:  The scholarship fee consists of:
    • Allowance of €650 per month.
    • All-in insurance (health, civil liability, repatriation)
    Airline ticket and visa costs are NOT included in the grant.
    As a top-up grant student you pay the tuition fee as for EEA-students. Note that this is not a full grant. It will be very hard to live and study in Ghent with only 650€/month.
    It’s highly recommended to have some extra funding.
  • Number of Scholarships: Each year, 15 scholarships can be awarded.
  • Nationality: OESO-DAC country list
  • Scholarship can be taken in Belgium

Eligibility for the Scholarship:

  • Eligible Countries: Students have to come from a country on the long list of the OESO-DAC country list.
  • Entrance Requirements: New students who wish to obtain a Master’s or Master-after-Master’s degree at Ghent University.

    Degree

    You have to have a bachelor degree when applying for a Master programme.
    You have to have a Master degree when applying for a Master-after-Master programme.

    Nationality

    You have to come from a country on the longlist of the OESO-DAC country list.
  • English Language Requirements:  To be able to determine the proficiency of someone’s knowledge of Dutch or English, Ghent University uses the Common European Framework Reference for Foreign Languages. There are six foreign language proficiency levels and is a basis for the recognition of language qualifications.

Application Procedure:

How to Apply: You cannot apply yourself for this Top-Up Grant. There’s no application form to fill in. The programme you would like to study at, decides which top-student applicant will be in their top 3 list. If you want to stress the need for such a top-up grant you can contact the study program to motivate why they should take you up in their shortlist of candidates. If you are on that list, you will get a notification of that. There’s no open call for these grants, they are now incorporated in the normal application scheme to obtain admission. Only academically admitted students will be considered. The application for academic admission should be submitted before the 1st of March according to this procedure. You can no longer apply to study at Ghent University and you cannot be considered for the topping up grant if you apply for admission later than 1st of March.
